PIPO H3 to use MTK6592 4G chipset

PIPO H3 to use MTK6592 4G chipset, becomes the first 4G tablet to use MTK processor

It has been that the PIPO H3 will be the first 4G tablet to use a processor from MTK. This tablet uses the 1.7Ghz MTK6592 octa-core chipset. Since it supports 4G internet, then, this tablet must use a combination of the MT6592 and MT6290 processors.

Some of the H3’s specifications were also revealed as well. It sports a 10.1-inch screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution. Its main camera is also pretty powerful as PIPO plans to put a 13mp camera on the back.

This rendering of the H3 shows that it has a similar design to the T9. The back still follows a three-level design, but the H3 does not have round ends. There is also a detachable panel on the left side of the main camera. From the tabs on the pan, it looks like the H3 may support dual-SIM cards and memory cards.

OPPO officially unveiling the N3

Oppo N3 LaunchAfter teasing the successor to its N1 smartphone online, Oppo has now started sending out invites for a press event on October 29, when it will be officially unveiling the N3 smartphone. The press event is happening in Singapore and the invite clearly states that it is for the Oppo N3 launch.
In related news, a new alleged render of the N3 smartphone has appeared online (see below), which shows a more believable and plausible design for the phone. The phone is still shown packing a rotating camera, similar to the Oppo N1, which will work both as the rear and front shooter on the phone. Oppo also seems be including somekind of a sensor next to the twin LED flashes in the phone. It could be a laser auto-focus sensor like the one present in LG G3 or a depth sensor like in HTC One M8.
There is still no way to check the authenticity of this render, so we will just have to wait for more credible leaks to get a confirmation on the Oppo N3 design. The specifications of this upcoming smartphone also remain a mystery but it is certain that they will be high-end and probably similar to the company flagship Find 7.

ZTE ZMAX is powered by a rather substantial 3,400mAh battery

The display of the phablet is a 5.7" LCD unit with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. An 8MP main camera capable of capturing 1080p video and 1.6MP front-facing unit are in charge of capturing memories.
ZTE ZMAX is powered by a rather substantial 3,400mAh battery. The latter should keep the device going for quite some time considering its relatively modest hardware.
The device boots Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box with mostly stock UI. Additional features on offer include dual-microphone noise canceling and Dolby DM3 audio.

Dell Venue 8 7000: World’s Thinnest Tablet Comes with 3D RealSense Camera

Intel is looking to create a new way to interact with devices and they have partnered with Dell to release the Venue 8 7000 sporting Intel RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera. On top of having some killer next generation camera technology it is also currently the world’s thinnest tablet at 6.0mm.
Dell Venue 8 7000: World’s Thinnest Tablet Comes with 3D RealSense Camera
During this morning’s Intel Developer Forum keynote, Dell CEO Michael Dell and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich will preview a new tablet. What makes this tablet an upgrade on what we currently have on the market is that it comes with the Intel RealSense Snapshot a depth perception camera.

What makes this set up interesting is that the depth cameras are capable of 720p but aren’t mounted on a module which is one of the reasons that Dell and Intel were able to get the tablet so thin. The device manufacture can actually put the cameras anywhere on the tablet allowing for a lot of design flexibility.  The cameras that take pictures are the 8MP on the rear is paired with a 2MP on the front.
dell venue 8 7 Dell Venue 8 7000: Worlds Thinnest Tablet Comes with 3D RealSense Camera
We got to spend a fair amount of time with the tablet most of which was taking a look at the software that comes with the camera. The 2 secondary cameras pull the depth data and the primary camera provides the information that allows for the awesome effects. Lets start with the coolest feature which is Selective Filter, in the video below you’ll see us turn the photo to black and white and pull the color from the back of the photo or the front allowing you to put color on the background or the features that pop.  Selective Focus is like changing the depth of field which is like what you’re used to seeing in some software offerings on other devices or the HTC One M8 which also sports a depth sensor, we have some photos comparing the difference in thickness
A few other camera features include measure measurement, meaning that it can measure the distance of an object or between objects, which came in useful while settling a debate of whether or not a subway sandwich was 12 inches or not. A snow globe mode is included which shows of snow falling on objects, the snow will pile up on the higher objects. And an Augmented Reality feature that can detect the edges of a table and the animated character will pop up from the tablet or stop walking then it reaches the edge.

The Dell Venue 8 7000 is shows what camera technology could be in a tablet, the form factor feels rugged with its metal exterior and snappy operating system. We currently have no official word on pricing an release dates, but rumor has it that we’r looking at an late October/November release with a $399 price point.

Apple Watch launched – here are all the details

The Apple Watch was officially announced just a few minutes ago. Let’s start by pointing out that it’s actually called the Apple Watch, not the iWatch. It’s essentially a companion device that integrates with an iPhone.
Apple Watch launched – here are all the details
The Apple Watch will be available in two sizes and three separate series that include a sports edition, a standard edition and an 18 carat gold version. Read on for all the details on Apple’s first wearable device.

Design & hardware

The first thing you will notice is the Apple Watch’s interesting design. This could be good or bad, but we don’t happen to be huge fans of the device’s looks. It looks a bit too thick on images and video, but we will say the flexibility in straps and the ease of customizability are quite awesome. One of them is made of 18 karatgold, for god’s sake!

The device features a curved retina display that will be available in two sizes – 38 mm and 42 mm (1.5 inches and 1.65 inches, accordingly). The screen is protected by a sapphire layer, which does happen to be among the strongest materials available.
There is one very interesting feature about this screen. Apple “invented” a new screen technology that allows the smartwatch to detect pressure in your taps. In short, it can tell if it was a slight tap or a full press, taking on different tasks for those separate actions.

Software, UI and navigation

The new Apple Watch debuts a very new kind of navigation that kind of draws on the traditional while leaping ahead into the future with small winder on the right side of the watch that you use much like a regular winder. It’s called the Digital Crown.
Rolling the winder in either direction will help you navigate the apps you are using, allowing you to pan in or out when using Maps, or to scroll through apps in a list without covering the screen with your finger.

Awesome and unique features

apple watch Apple Watch launched here are all the details
The Apple Watch does support a series of apps, including Maps, messaging and even Siri! In addition, one can use it with Apple Pay. Not only can you get rid of your credit cards, but you can now pay with your watch. Because who needs to slave away pulling out phones to pay, right?
The user interface is a bit odd, but we will have to test it first hand to see just how effective it really is.

Around the back you will find the sensors that detect your heart rate. Software features to exploit the health sensors have also been applied.
The Activity app is pretty much a constant fitness tracker. It can tell you your general daily health performance, measuring how much you walk, how often you take breaks and the like.

Those who prefer tracking their intense workouts, as opposed to their mundane activities, can use the Workout app, which keeps track of your dedicated exercise time.
The back is also where the device can be charged with the MagSafe/wireless charging contraption Apple has created for this product. Which to be honest, looks quite awesome and convenient.
This is also a communications device, so Apple has created a neat and fun way to connect with other Apple Watch users. You can literally send finger-written messages to others. But if you really want to get personal, you can also send them your heart beat (yes, your real heartbeat, measured by the watch).

Powered by an Apple S1 Processor, this light wearable promises good performance and useful features. It will definitely be in many wrists quickly after, but you may have to wait a bit longer than usual to get your hands on this one.

Price and availability

The Apple Watch will be launching on early 2015, which is an insane time to wait. Especially considering Apple always releases its products very soon after announcements. As for the price? It won’t be cheap either, carrying a mighty $349 price tag
And of course, no new product can be successful without good support. Apple is a very popular brand and they are sure to sell many of these, which means developers should quickly flock to Apple’s new “WatchKit” developer program.
Screen Shot 2014 09 09 at 1.27.32 PM 1280x725 1024x580 Apple Watch launched here are all the details
WatchKit gives developers all the tools they need to optimize their apps to the Apple Watch. Using it will improve battery life , performance and compatibility. It should be released in 2015, as well, so you should keep an eye open on WatchKit if you plan to build an Apple Watch app.

Final thoughts

I must say I am not completely sold on this one, guys. The design is not really that great compared to other smartwatches we have seen recently. Not to mention, the price and release date are not very enticing. Are you waiting for one of these?

Double Gun – Indie app of the day

What is Double Gun?

Double Gun is a first person shooter where you pick up a couple of guns and mow down some monsters. It’s a slightly played out premise to be sure but that doesn’t mean it isn’t any fun. You play level to level and try to mow down all the zombies without dying.

The game play is a little slow but it still manages to be difficult. You wield two weapons that you can change independently and your control each arm that fires. You can unlock pistols, machine guns, or sniper rifles as you play so you can have all sorts of combinations. The enemies consist of zombies, aliens, and other assorted monsters to keep things interesting.

There are in app purchases that let you buy in-game currency that is used unlock things and levels. The developer states that IAPs aren’t needed to enjoy the whole game but a few gamers have complained about it. If you have a very low tolerance for IAPs, you should probably avoid this one. If you can handle it, then it’s worth a try.

It's no Dead Trigger 2 but it's no Swing Copters either.

PROS
  • The graphics aren't terrible.
  • The controls are easy.
  • Plenty of guns and levels to unlock.
  • Free to play.
CONS
  • Gold grinding may be too monotonous or frustrating for some.
  • Game play itself may become repetitive after a while.
6.0
Overall, it’s a time waster that’s pretty fun. It’s not amazing like Dead Trigger 2 but for some people it’ll be better than many of the games that have been out recently that are “too simple.” It’s free to play with in app purchases, so why not check it out?

Huawei is releasing an Android Wear smartwatch in 2015

Earlier this year we learned about the TalkBand, Huawei’s first attempt at a wearable device. Now according to Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu, the company is preparing for a second wearable that will be launched in 2015 with Android Wear. Keep in mind that the watch is still a ways off and we don’t know much about it, such as if it will be circular or square, though according to Yu, the smartwatch will be “more beautiful” than Samsung’s Gear S.

Considering that LG, Motorola, ASUS and Sony already have smartwatches running Google’s platform, Huawei faces significant competition in the upcoming wearable market. In fact, as we covered earlier today, Motorola introduced the Moto 360 to good initial reviews. Of course, Huawei has a long history of making fairly decent devices with relatively aggressive price points, and so if they can deliver a watch with decents looks and a lower price tag then the competition, they could have a winner on their hands.

what were you most impressed by, any disappointments?

With the big announcements of the week behind us, what were you most impressed by? What would you have liked to see that you didn’t? How to you feel about the new flagships from Moto, Sony and Samsung?

While IFA is still technically going on, the biggest announcements have already happened and we’ve seen quite a few exciting things from Sony, Samsung, Motorola, Asus, HTC and many others. As IFA starts to wind down, we want to take a look back at the week and discuss what we found most impressive and if there was anything we were disappointed about.

In typical fashion, we’ll start by sharing the opinions of a few members of the AA team, and we’ll then follow with a few polls this time around. After that, feel free to keep the conversation going in the comments below!

Joseph Hindy

It has been an amazing week for mobile technology. Far more so than I could have hoped. We saw a VR headset, a flagship phone with good specs and a curved screen, probably the most attractive smartwatch yet in the Moto 360. The Xperia Z3 and the Moto X 2014 are both very solid offerings that serve to extend the portfolio of their OEMs. The Moto G 2014 is an excellent budget phone and even the Moto Hint looks interesting.

I really honestly couldn’t be happier with all of it. The Note Edge and Gear VR were total surprises for me and after years of listening to Samsung haters challenge Samsung to innovate, I feel like they actually did and that was a total surprise to me. By this point, I expected solid flagship offerings out of Samsung (who thought the Note 4 was going to be a flop? No one) but nothing too ridiculous. Then they go and announced two ridiculous products at the same time.

Despite their (now typically) weird and socially awkward Unpacked event, I finished watching it with a glimmer of hope for the future. Not only has Samsung gone out and done some truly interesting and actually innovative things, but they have now challenged other OEMs to think outside the box. Even if I never own a Note Edge or a Gear VR, I know that eventually the likes of Sony, LG, and Moto will eventually start playing with similar concepts and provide choices for everyone. That’s a serious win for all of us.

The only thing I didn’t see that I would have liked to have seen was more enthusiasm out of people. I did see some people who were genuinely excited about the things Moto, Sony, and Samsung were doing. However, more often than not, I saw a proverbial blank stare of boredom out of people and that’s actually really depressing. Here we have four of the most cutting edge smartphones ever created (plus the best budget phone of all time and the most attractive smartwatch ever) and people are yawning or complaining about small things like the overuse of the word “innovation” in press releases and press events.

At what point did people stop just enjoying this wave of technology and start caring how companies presented it? It’s like watching a kid open a gift on Christmas, getting the most expensive, popular electronic available, and then tossing it aside and immediately start chastising Santa about how it wasn’t wrapped properly. Jeff Marek of Sportsnet said it best, “Some people are just in it for the paycheck and don’t care about what they’re covering anymore.”

If you were excited about these awesome products, you’re doing it right!

Edgar Cervantes

Phew! It has been one hell of a week. We have been going nuts here, but it’s time to stop writing, step back and take a look at all that just happened. September has just become the most eventful month of the year (and more is to come).

We have jumped into a new era. Manufacturers are no longer going nuts with crazy specs and silly gimmicks (at least most aren’t). They seem to have finally found their perfect equations and are following them to the tee. What people want is simplicity, performance and a good design/build quality.

Let’s take Sony as an example. They have managed to release a whole new set of devices that are all impressive, yet closely resemble their predecessors. These new devices are simply better versions of already-awesome products. The same applies to Motorola’s new smartphones.

Of course, we can’t forget all those smartwatches, which were also among the most exciting products we saw this week. In the midst of all these wearable announcements, we only saw one circular smartwatch, though – the LG G Watch R. This makes for two circular smartwatches all together, a number that is disappointing. We know there is a demand for this form-factor in the Android Wear world. People are going nuts over these round displays! Why aren’t more manufacturers creating them?

Regardless, it was a good week for mobile. We even had a little bit of crazy coming from Samsung (of course). You know how I feel about the Moto X and the Xperia Z3, but Samsung really took it home with their Galaxy Note announcement. Aside from the Note 4, which does seem great, they showed us the odd Galaxy Note Edge. It has an edge display that offers extra functionality. It’s crazy, weird, and dare I say, somewhat ugly. And for some reason I love it!

Andrew Grush

Considering that I’m a full-timer here at AA and spend countless hours covering all matter of rumors, news and leaks — I expected and eagerly anticipated just about everything announced at IFA. The only real surprises were the Note Edge (I didn’t think it would be unveiled until sometime after Note 4) and the fact that Sony’s Smartwatch 3 is ditching Sony’s ecosystem in favor of Android Wear.

Still, even if I had a good idea of what was coming, I’m still very impressed by just everything that arrived. Even though I’m not necessarily a big Samsung fan, I’d say that the Note 4 was probably one of the most impressive devices shown off at IFA. Great specs as always, but also a jump up in build quality and some truly useful additions to their multi-tasking and S-pen features. I also am curious about Gear VR and Note Edge, which both have the potential to be a big deal if Samsung executes their releases correctly.

Really though, there’s nothing that I can say “sucked” about the products announced. Sure, there are folks complaining that the Z3 isn’t a big step forward, but it does make some meaningful changes in the camera, display and design department. It’s a refinement, and that’s really all we can hope for in six months after the release of the last flagship. Yah, Snapdragon 805 would have been awesome, but it really won’t make a huge difference (if any) in real world performance.

I’m also glad to see Motorola is continuing in the same direction they started with the original Moto X and Moto G. And the Moto 360 looks just as impressive as we thought it’d be.

Overall this was a big week in tech, and a shadow of what the years to come will bring with innovations like virtual reality, next-gen wearables, and edge displays — all of which were seen at IFA this week.
